Safety Rules
Neodymium Magnet Safety Instructions
1. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN
Magnets are not toys and must not be allowed to become children's toys. Small magnets may be swallowed or cause choking. If this happens, seek immediate medical attention. Larger magnets can crush a child's fingers or cause skin injuries.
2. EFFECTS ON THE HUMAN BODY
People with pacemakers are advised not to use neodymium magnets. They generate a strong magnetic field that may interfere with the operation of pacemakers and other medical implants.
3. STRONG ATTRACTION FORCE
Neodymium magnets attract each other with great force. Take care to protect your fingers and other body parts, which can become trapped or crushed between magnets. Large magnets can cause serious bodily injury or permanent disability.
4. NICKEL ALLERGY
People with a nickel allergy should avoid contact with neodymium magnets coated with NiCuNi. Allergic reactions often manifest as redness and a rash. People with a nickel allergy are advised to wear protective gloves.
5. NEODYMIUM MAGNETS – BRITTLE AND DELICATE MATERIAL
Neodymium magnets are highly brittle and can be easily damaged. Magnets colliding with each other or striking a steel object may break or chip, producing small, sharp fragments that can injure the eyes or hands. Protective eyewear and gloves are therefore recommended.
6. FLAMMABLE MAGNETIC DUST
Drilling or mechanically processing neodymium magnets may produce powder and dust, which is highly flammable. Machining magnets without specialized tools is not recommended.
7. STRONG MAGNETIC FIELD – INTERFERENCE WITH DEVICES
Neodymium magnets should be kept at an appropriate distance from wallets, computers, mobile phones, televisions, and other electronic devices. The strong magnetic field generated by neodymium magnets may damage magnetic media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic identification cards, hard drives, and similar devices. Magnets can also interfere with navigation devices such as compasses and GPS systems. Air transport of magnets is subject to numerous restrictions.
8. NEODYMIUM MAGNETS CAN CORRODE
Neodymium magnets are most commonly coated with NiCuNi, which provides adequate protection for most applications. However, this coating does not provide 100% protection against prolonged exposure to moisture. When used underwater or in humid environments, neodymium magnets may corrode or lose their magnetic properties.
